An evening affair at the HRC's Foundation Equality Center

Event Site Spotlight: HRC's Foundation Equality Center

Located just a few blocks south-east of Dupont Circle, the HRC's Foundation Equality Center is a fresh new option for anyone wishing to host a reception or conference in downtown Washington.  HRC Facilities Event Manager Steve Mongeau is with us today to give us the low-down on this modern facility.

I'm sure that not many people are aware that the HRC's Foundation Equality Center is available for private event rental.  Steve, how long has HRC been here?

This building was officially opened in October 2003, although the staff and operations moved in earlier that year.  The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has actually been located in six different buildings throughout the city during its history and the goal was to establish a permanent place to carry on our work and to represent the struggle for equality in a permanent way here in the heart of our nation’s capital.

The building itself used to be the home of the B’nai Brith, providing services to the Jewish community since the mid 1950’s.  The building was going to be destroyed, but HRC bought it and completely renovated the interior.  Now, we’re happy to work in the same spirit of community and equality in the space they occupied for so long.

Well, this location can't be beat.  Our clients constantly ask us for event site recommendations in the District.

This building is located on what is commonly referred to as Embassy Row.  Throughout the area, dozens of countries conduct their diplomatic work and welcome visitors. In the same way, the HRC building aspires to work as a ‘gay embassy,’ teaching the community about what we do and welcoming members and friends from all over the world.

The main reception room has a very clean and contemporary feel.  And these big windows looking out on the city give a definite cosmopolitan edge.

You may have noticed that the entire front of the building seems to be covered with windows. Part of the reason for this is to symbolize openness and a clear commitment to the work that we do.

What amenities does the HRC's Foundation Equality Center offer its clients?

In addition to on-site coordination and equipment such as tables and chairs, we can handle all of your audio-visual needs.  We will soon have a fully functional media center.

Is there anything else that you would like to share?

I am dedicated to making every event go over with perfection, looking at all angles of an event to provide the best service in the industry.
