Sally & Laura: International Tapas

After a ten month engagement, Sally Green, 31, and Laura Heaven, 26, invited family and friends to HRC's Equality Center to celebrate their November wedding.  Green, Deputy Field Director for a non-profit organization, met Heaven, who is now a social worker, while she was interning at her workplace.

BasiKneads Catering came highly recommended by HRC staff, who have used BasiKneads for board meetings and receptions on numerous occasions.

Guests gathered at the historic Takoma Park Presbyterian Church for a ceremony presided over by Reverend Laura Collins.

Green gives high praise to Park Florist's vivid floral arrangements of red roses, golden stargazer lilies, calla lilies and eucalyptus.  Musician Karen Boyer, friend of both brides, performed a contemplative prelude as guests arrived.

While the ceremony went smoothly, Green will never forget "when Sally forgot her vows, which she had written herself, and Reverend Collins prompted her".

Following the ceremony, guests were shuttled to HRC's Equality Center, located blocks away from Washington's bustling Dupont Circle.

Upon arriving at the Equality Center, attentive servers greeted guests with hors d'oeuvres such as Baked Crab, Brie and Artichoke Crostini, juicy Crimini Mushrooms Stuffed with Swiss, Bacon and Herbs, and savory Assorted Mousse Tartlets.

Friends leisurely mingled at the BasiKneads wine bar while enjoying music performed by the Chamber Players of Washington.  The flute, viola and harp trio was provided complements of BasiKneads as a part one of their monthly promotions.  This versatle ensemble entertained guests with a mix of classical, Celtic and popular selections.

When planning her menu with event manager Rich Vizard, Green indicated that she wanted a "diversity of foods - something for everyone."   Vizard designed an hors d'oeuvres buffet featuring a variety of international specialties, including lemongrass-scented Asian Meatballs with Thai Red Curry Sauce, crisp Miniature Spanakopita Triangles, spicy Jerked Chicken Breast Kebabs, and BasiKneads' Tuscan Antipasti Platter of roasted red peppers, marinated imported Italian mushrooms, Prosciutto and fresh fontina cheese.
